What does it take to get out of bed on Monday?
It’s already Monday evening as I’m writing this and I’m lucky enough to have worked on a variety of projects that keep me motivated. Motivated enough to be at the end of the day and still have plenty of fire left to take the list of challenges that always seems to grow.
It’s OK. Maybe I’m an oddball, but I like it that way.
What gets me going these days is working towards something that makes a difference and sharing it with others.
For others, motivation is found within:
- Money
- Security for your family
- Solving challenges
- Connecting with others
- Learning something new
- Recognition from your peers
- and the list goes on and on…
In this crazy, mixed up economy that we’re all part of now, sometimes it’s just survival. Getting that pay check and paying off the bills is more than enough for some folks. For others it seems like wagging their fingers at everyone, except for themselves for all the wrongs in the world seems to be a common past time. From my comfortable corporate job that might a path that I might take, if it were my style. It’s not.
Over the course of the last year I’ve been inspired by friends, acquaintances, and strangers who are searching for that same spark. That thing that makes you get up in the morning and strap on the armor even when you know that there is no way that you can handle everything waiting for you at the end of your commute. I have to admit on some of those days I’ve pulled the covers over my head for those extra 15 minutes of respite from those things that have waited for me all night or all weekend. I’m not perfect, but now know when I feel those butterflies just before a big meeting or feel that the thing under my bed is coming to drag me down that it is for those times for which I’ve been training my entire life. It’s those times that I recognize that I wouldn’t be presented with a particular challenge if I wasn’t meant to attack it with all that I am.
I created this site in part to inspire that spark in those of you who are looking for that next big thing, even if it’s being a little more excited about what you do for a living or knowing that it’s time to move on to challenges more worthy of your talents. Another part of this will be practical advice and interviews from folks who are questing after the same thing that we are. If there’s some question or challenge you have. Send it my way at: rebootthis@yourcareerreboot.com
It doesn’t matter where you are in your career or even if you’re retired, there are plenty of challenges out there for all of us, it’s just a matter of figuring out what you want to be when you grow up. The alarm is ringing. What are you going to do?
